Nobody knows what a Prairie Folly looks like
Published February 8, 2024
A Prairie Folly is a rare bird of the tall grass prairie. It’s so rare, in fact, that it doesn’t even exist. That’s pretty rare. Though some folks in Seward County swear they have sighted the bird, experts say it’s highly unlikely, to the point of impossible.
Trish, at Davisson Furniture Center in Seward, NE, told us, “Customers ask me why they should come to The Great Folly Hunt when nobody knows what the bird even looks like!”
For the answer to this important question we went to the highest source in Seward Nebraska, Mayor Josh Eickmeier. “The Prairie Folly has three feather tufts sprouting out of its head,” Mayor Eickmeier told us quite confidently, “and these tufts match its tail feathers. The tufts and tail are a muted red, yellow and green, though some avid bird-watchers say exactly the opposite, that the tufts and tail feathers are actually green, yellow and red, completely reversed.”
Over at the Sparetime Lounge & Grill, Tom and one of his buddies are nursing beers.“The Folly is brown,” Tom says. His buddy disagrees, sort of. “Nah, it’s brown-ish,” his buddy clarifies. “Except for the tufts and tail, it’s brown-ish.” Tom shakes his head. “It’s brown,” he says adamantly. “Mottled,” his buddy says. “It’s mottled brown.” So that clears that right up.
